Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be an engineer to join?
No! It seems odd, but you don’t need to be an engineer to be part of Engineers Without Borders. We encourage anyone who wants to help make a difference to join our group. We encourage people with a variety of backgrounds to come to a meeting and find out what we’re all about.

How do I get involved?
Come to a meeting! We have multiple committees working on many different problems. Come to a meeting and don't be shy. Some examples of our current committees are:

Design: Our design committee is working on three major project. They are compiling data to start work on a water distribution system for Los Planes. They also hope to continue to improve the system in El Tecuan. Another project that falls under the scope of the design committee is the Carlos Project. This project is in conjunction with ACTS and is in need of people in the health science field.
Fundraising: The fundraising committee always has the tough job of figuring out how to pay for our projects. It is quite a task to raise enough money to send a team to Honduras. This committee would a great place for someone in the business field, but of course anyone is welcome.
Cultural and Education: This committee is always looking for ways to teach the group more about the area in which we are working. On our last trip this group wrote a newsletter in Spanish to give to all the people living in El Tecuan to let them know what the group was doing and how they could help. The group also works hard to translate documents we receive and send to Honduras.

How do I get to go on a trip?
Get involved!! Who goes on the trip is very heavily based on your consistent involvement. Although not everyone can always go staying involved and persistently finding out how you can help greatly increases your chances.

Do members have to pay to go?
No, as long as the fundraising committee has done its job. Our past two trips have been paid for through donations from our great sponsors.
